Swedish singer Robyn who performs mainly in English has released her 8th album, Honey, her first in eight years. It tops iTunes Sweden and is at or near the top of the charts in many countries around the world. The electronic pop specialist kneads into the dough some house, and even soul and urban flavours here and there. For those who love modern pop music, this should hit the spot standing as one of 2018’s finest releases.
Swedish singer and songwriter Jay-Jay Johanson released his 11th studio album in 2017, Bury the Hatchet. Jay-Jay is one of those gifted ones whose albums are all very good, and he has varied his style just enough to keep things interesting. He’s done trip-hop, electronica, EDM, film noir jazz, and his natural ability at crafting melancholia has helped him gain a significant fan base in France. He sounds like he has lots of fun creating, and he makes it seem so simple. Bury the Hatchet contains some haunting piano instrumentals, and a standout track may be “Rainbow” featuring Lucy Belle Guthrie, the daughter of The Cocteau Twins’ Robin Guthrie. Below is the MV for the title-track.
For those who like football, The 2016 UEFA European Championship is taking place in France from June 10 – July 10. French EDM superstar David Guetta was charged with authoring a theme song for the event and he selected Sweden’s Zara Larsson to provide the vocals. We do wish the song had been performed in Swedish, or French for that matter, but we will have to settle with English. The official MV for the song entitled “This One’s For You” came out last week and we embed it below.
